Unknown Places
In “Teach/Corrupt” (The Acolyte 1.6), Qimir takes Osha to a mysterious island on an ocean world that the title card refers to only as “Unknown Planet.” This planet is also where the Sith Master Darth Plagueis, who will later become notorious for discovering an unnatural way to cheat death, is shown to be hiding.
Similarly, in The Rise of Skywalker, the Sith Master Palpatine is hiding in the “Unknown Regions” on the mysterious planet Exegol. Kylo Ren and Rey must use Sith Wayfinders to traverse the Unknown Regions and reach Exegol, where Palpatine has used unnatural means to cheat death.
Throughout Star Wars, the dark side of the Force is associated with what the psychologist Carl Jung refers to as the “unconscious”: the part of the human psyche containing that which is not consciously known, such as repressed emotions. In Jungian archetypes, the unconscious is symbolized as a sea, and on the oceanic Unknown Planet, Qimir references this Jungian idea all but explicitly when he tells Osha, “Below the surface of consciousness are powerful emotions: anger, fear, loss, desire.” It is fitting that the Sith – who draw their power from the passionate emotions that the Jedi would suppress and seek knowledge that the Jedi consider forbidden and unnatural – would hide in unknown places like the Unknown Planet and the Unknown Regions.
