Two Are Necessary
In the opening scene of "Always Two There Are" (Rebels 2.5), Kanan Jarrus and Captain Rex butt heads over how to train Ezra Bridger. The Jedi wants Ezra to focus on the Force, while the more practically-minded Clone thinks Ezra needs to use his "eyes" and "wits."
This tension within the Rebel ranks is reflected within the Empire. Admiral Konstantine complains to Agent Kallus about the presence of the Inquisitors: "These mystics are unnecessary. I don't know why Lord Vader insists on sending them." Shortly afterwards, the Fifth Brother Inquisitor departs from Konstantine's Star Destroyer with the words, "Your assistance is unnecessary, Agent Kallus. I shall go alone." The two different groups of Imperials – the materialists and the mystics – each see the other as "unnecessary," mirroring the tension between the Jedi Kanan and the soldier Rex.
Even within their own ranks, the individual Inquisitors fail to see the necessity of working together. When the Fifth Brother and the Seventh Sister corner Ezra and his friends on an abandoned space station, they quickly begin arguing and competing with one another: "The kill is mine," the Fifth Brother insists. Ultimately, Ezra and the others escape the Inquisitors' clutches precisely because of their failure to work together. As the Rebels take off in the Phantom, the two Inquisitors use the Force to hold the shuttle back until the Fifth Brother gets distracted and lets go, ignoring the Seventh Sister's cry: "I can't hold them alone!" When the Rebels return safely to the Ghost, Zeb Orrelios explains that they escaped because "It was a group effort" – a group effort being exactly what the Inquisitors were incapable of.
