Renouncing the Saber
In the third episodes of both the original trilogy and the sequel trilogy, a son throws away his lightsaber and reconciles with his father on the second Death Star.
In Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker confronts his father, Darth Vader, in Emperor Palpatine’s throne room on the second Death Star. At the evil master’s goading, Vader and Luke try to kill each other, but Luke comes to himself and, affirming his love for his father, throws away the lightsaber he almost used to kill him.
In The Force Awakens, Kylo Ren confronts his father, Han Solo, on Starkiller Base, and kills him on the orders of his evil master, Supreme Leader Snoke. However, Kylo Ren regrets this action, and in The Rise of Skywalker, he reconciles with a vision of his father on the wreck of the second Death Star. Coming back to himself and affirming his love for Han, Ben Solo throws away the lightsaber he once used to kill his father.
