Only Two Seats
In “The Acolyte” (The Acolyte 1.8), twin sisters Mae and Osha Aniseya must separate while fleeing from Jedi on the planet Brendok. They cannot both escape in the ship of their Sith ally Qimir because it only seats two. The fact that this Sith ship has only two cockpits recalls Yoda’s description of the Sith in The Phantom Menace: “Always two there are. A master and an apprentice.”
This moment cements the parallels between Jedi and Sith that run through the entirety of The Acolyte. In “Choice” (The Acolyte 1.7), it is revealed that Jedi Master Sol was faced with a situation where he could take only one of the two sisters. He chose to save Osha and leave Mae to her apparent death, and subsequently lied to Osha about the true nature of what had happened.
In “The Acolyte,” the Sith master Qimir is also faced with a situation where he can take only one of the two sisters. He chooses to take Osha and leave Mae behind, and subsequently uses the Force to wipe Mae’s memories, altering her perception of the past much as Sol did with Osha.
Sol tells Osha that she and Mae, a pair of twins created with the Force, are “the same person.” The tragedy of The Acolyte is that this one person can never be complete; the Jedi and the Sith alike take only one half, leaving Mae and Osha perpetually divided from each other.
