Janu Coin
In The Mandalorian and Grogu, Din Djarin is tasked with hunting down the ex-Imperial warlord Commander Coin. As part of his search, Din travels to the city planet Shakari to rescue Rotta the Hutt from his supposed benefactor, Lord Janu. Initially, Rotta – who has been supported in his gladiatorial career by Lord Janu – does not think he needs to be rescued. However, after Janu reveals his true colors by betraying Rotta to be killed in the arena, the Hutt reveals that Commander Coin and Lord Janu are one and the same man, whose real name is Janu Coin.
The name “Janu” is one letter off from the name of the Roman deity “Janus,” the father of the gods, who – being the god of duality – has two faces. A coin is a piece of currency that also has two sides or “faces.” “Janu Coin,” then, is a fitting name for a greedy, two-faced character with dual identities. He presents himself to Rotta as Lord Janu, a benevolent father figure, but in truth, Commander Coin only cares about the profit Rotta can bring him.
