Images of Hope
In both The Clone Wars and Andor, a rebel leader appears as a giant hologram in the streets of a city occupied by oppressive forces.
In "The Soft War" (The Clone Wars 5.4), Steela Gerrera is the leader of a group of rebels trained by the Jedi to overthrow the Separatist occupation of Onderon. After Steela's insurgents carry out several attacks against the Separatists' droid army, she appears to the population of Onderon as a giant hologram projected in the city streets, hoping to inspire the masses to rise up against the battle droids and reclaim their freedom.
In "Rix Road" (Andor 1.12), the people of Ferrix gather for the funeral procession of Maarva Andor. Maarva appears posthumously as a giant hologram projected in the city streets, delivering a speech that inspires the assembled crowd to rise up against the Stormtroopers who are occupying Ferrix and fight for their freedom.
In both cases, the people of a city are oppressed by an occupying force that rules through fear. When the corrupt King Rash voices fear that his Separatist regime is losing public sympathy, the tactical droid general Kalani replies: "Fear will bring them back... If the rebel army falls, the citizens will lose their courage."
The antidote to fear is hope. After Steela appears as a hologram, her rebel group rescues Onderon's true king, Dendup – who, according to Obi-Wan Kenobi, "represents hope." Dendup follows Steela's lead and broadcasts himself as a hologram in the streets, urging the people to rise up. Hope frees people from fear.
