The name "Ezra Bridger" complements the name "Luke Skywalker." Both first names are Biblical, but "Ezra" is a book of the Old Testament, while "Luke" is a book of the New Testament. Moreover, from a certain point of view, a bridge is something that enables a person to walk in the sky.
Ezra is named for an Old Testament scribe and priest who ministered to the Israelites during the period of reconstruction that followed their return from captivity in Babylon. Ezra's father also has an Old Testament name. Ephraim is one of Joseph's sons, who was born during the Israelites' sojourn in Egypt – a sojourn that ended in their exodus from slavery. Ezra's driving motive throughout Star Wars Rebels is to follow in his father's footsteps by freeing the people of Lothal from slavery to the Empire and helping them restore their home.

Nice catch! I wonder if Bridger also refers to the way Filoni tried to use Rebels to help 'bridge' the gap between the prequels and original trilogy.
