Evil Defeats Itself
In both the first and third acts of Return of the Jedi – the battle on Jabba the Hutt's sail barge and the battle of Endor – there are three instances of evil being defeated by its own power.
In the first act:
(1) Boba Fett is defeated when the jetpack that enabled him to fly is hit and malfunctions, sending him into the Sarlacc Pit.
(2) Jabba is defeated when Leia Organa strangles him with the chain which was previously a symbol of his power over her.
(3) Jabba's sail barge is destroyed by its own laser cannon when Luke Skywalker and Leia aim it at the deck and set it to fire.
In the third act:
(1) The Imperial troops on Endor are defeated when Chewbacca commandeers one of their AT-ST Walkers to use against them and Han Solo uses one of their uniforms to trick them into leaving the bunker.
(2) The Super Star Destroyer Executor is defeated when an A-Wing crashes into its bridge, causing it to collide with the Second Death Star and explode.
(3) The Emperor is defeated when Darth Vader turns against him and hurls him down a pit into the depths of the Second Death Star.
Good is stronger than evil because it is ultimately the nature of evil to defeat itself.
