Darth Tyranus
In Attack of the Clones, Count Dooku is revealed to be the Sith Lord Darth Tyranus, working with his master Darth Sidious to bring about the Clone Wars. The name "Tyranus" is clearly meant to evoke the Latin "tyrannus," which can refer generally to a "monarch" or "ruler," but tends to refer more specifically to a "tyrant" or "despot" – a ruler who cruelly oppresses his people with arbitrary power. The English words "tyranny" and "tyrant" are derived from the Latin "tyrannus."
The name "Tyranus" is highly ironic given Dooku's position as the leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, a revolutionary group attempting to gain political autonomy apart from the Galactic Republic. In "The Last Battle" (Rebels 3.5), when Ezra Bridger asks what the Separatists were fighting for, the tactical droid Kalani sums it up this way: "According to my programming, freedom from the tyranny of the Republic." Count Dooku is ostensibly fighting for freedom, but as Darth Tyranus, he is secretly working towards tyranny.
