Dark Vision
In "Steps Into Shadow" (Rebels 3.1-2), Kanan Jarrus, recently blinded by Darth Maul, learns to "see" through the Force under the tutelage of the Bendu. Meanwhile – albeit in a less literal way – Ezra Bridger is also learning a new kind of sight from a new teacher.
During his estrangement from Kanan, Ezra begins drawing on the dark side of the Force, using forbidden knowledge from the Sith holocron he found on Malachor. When Ezra first opens the holocron in "Twilight of the Apprentice" (Rebels 2.21-22), its red light is reflected in his eyes:
Ezra's dialogue with the Sith holocron revolves around the theme of sight: "You can see things clearly your friends cannot," it tells him. In "Steps Into Shadow," Ezra is secretly keeping the Sith holocron in his quarters on the Ghost to avoid Kanan's disapproval. He hides the holocron inside one of the stolen Imperial helmets he collects. When the Sith holocron starts to glow, its red light emanates through the eyeholes of the helmet:
The effect visually recalls the ending of Revenge of the Sith, when Darth Vader's helmet is lowered onto Anakin Skywalker's face, placing red lenses over his eyes. For both Ezra and Anakin, turning to the dark side means seeing the world in a new way.
