D-Squad Ring Theory
In The Clone Wars, the four episodes of the D-Squad arc (5.10-5.13) follow a chiastic structure.
A – 5.10 Secret Weapons
Mace Windu introduces the mission ("Time is not on our side, so I'll make this short") and Colonel Meebur Gascon, who gives the assembled droids a self-aggrandizing speech about how he expects to be honored with a promotion.
The droids (the Jedi's "secret weapons") leave the Jedi and Republic war council and go on a mission to infiltrate a Separatist ship.
BZ, the droid who carries Meebur Gascon around in his memory bank, "dies" (though the others are able to repair him later).
R2-D2 fights a Separatist tactical droid.
B – 5.11 A Sunny Day in the Void
The droids commandeer a Separatist shuttle and arrive on the void planet Abafar (descent).
To get out of the void and find a watering hole, Meebur Gascon has to forget his training as a member of the Republic army and follow the instincts of the birds, who are driven by their need for water.
B’ – 5.12 Missing in Action
Driven by his need for food, Meebur follows bugs to the alleyway behind a diner ("a place of eating"), where he finds Gregor. To get out of the void, the amnesiac, enslaved Gregor has to remember his training as a member of the Republic army.
The droids commandeer a Republic shuttle and leave the void planet Abafar (ascent).
A’ – 5.13 Point of No Return
The droids infiltrate a Republic ship, which has been turned into a bomb (a secret weapon) by Separatists and is heading towards a Jedi and Republic war council.
BZ dies.
Meebur Gascon gives a speech honoring BZ's memory to the assembled droids ("I'll have to make it quick, because we don't have much time").
R2-D2 fights a Separatist tactical droid.
